Should my business be blogging?

Lots of business owners come to me and question the need for a business blog. After all, their website is up and running, they post a few times on social media, and sales are steady.

But did you know that more than 400 million internet users read around 20 billion blog posts every month?! Not just that but 1 in 4 buy something after reading a blog, every month.

And if that doesn’t tempt you to start blogging, the following article will…

The benefits of blogging for business

It drives traffic

Whatever industry you’re in, whether you’re a large or small business owner, and whichever products or services you sell, we all want the same thing: more customers. One way to achieve this is to drive people to your website. There are a few tactics for this but blogging is one of the best.

For starters, when you write a blog, you can use it as part of your social media marketing strategy. You can even share it via email persuading readers to click through. Another reason why blogging can increase your website traffic is because everytime you create a new blog, you’re creating a new website page.

Every website page you have gives you more opportunity to show up on search engines. When you show up on search engines, there’s more chance that people will visit your website.

It humanises your brand

We’ve all heard the phrase, ‘people buy from people’, and it really is true. With so many saturated markets though, it can be difficult to shine through and showcase what makes your business different. That’s where blogging comes in. It allows you to tell a story, share your expertise about a certain subject, celebrate company news and milestones, and reveal certain aspects of your brand personality.

When you do, your target audience will get an insight into your business - in a way that wasn’t possible before. This helps to build their trust as well as your credibility, which we know are essential for sales.

It provides you with content

Social media planning and email marketing is hard, I get it. But a blog post can be repurposed in a variety of ways giving you plenty of content opportunities. Think about it this way: one blog can be turned into a social media post, it can be broken up and used in your next newsletter or email, or you could even discuss the main points in a video or podcast and share it on your website.

You could even use blog content to create an infographic which can then be shared online, on image sharing sites, and with the press. Modern PR agencies LOVE infographics. By blogging regularly, you’ll be strengthening your online presence and taking it to new levels.

It’s great for search engine optimisation

Search engine optimisation, or SEO, is a term that’s thrown around the business world. And, it can get super technical. In simple terms, it describes the process of refining your website so that it appears higher in search engine results - which, when it does, means more website traffic and potential sales.

There are lots of ways to approach SEO but one of the most important is to create content regularly, and not just any old content but quality content. By adding essential keywords and phrases, and writing in a specific readable way, using links, and images, your blogs can help your website to jump up the ranks.
